This story reminds me of when I was in camp in the late 80's. On the first night the counselor told us to get our soap and shampoo and all that because we were all walking down to the showers. One kid asked if we were going to have to be naked in the shower. The counselor replied somewhat sarcastically,
"No, we're going to wear our underwear."
We all laughed. Got to the shower and the kid who was hesitant about baring all only took a couple of minutes to join us all.
Nowadays, I imagine that the situation has flipped showering in your underwear doesn't seem weird but showering nude does.
