Even when I was young, I didn't dislike girls like the rest of my friends did, in fact I was probably the only boy in my social circle that didn't believe in "cooties" and stuff. That said, I didn't start having sexual attraction to girls until my teens. With boys, however...
I had experimented with several of my guy friends since I was 9, as we were more willing to do that kind of stuff than girls were. We were curious, and we soon realized how fun it was, but of course we (for the most part) did our best to keep it a secret since our parents made it pretty clear that we shouldn't be doing this kind of stuff until we grew up.
I have also read other stories online about guys who did stuff with their male friends when they were kids. They weren't gay (most of them, at least), but the stuff they did together nonetheless felt really good, and were among the fondest memories they had, and those experiences helped them deal with these new urges towards girls that came with puberty. That said, I won't use these anecdotal stories and pretend that this is a common practice, but we cannot deny that it's not uncommon either.
