At the time I was a child growing-up here in the United States, almost all boys were circumcised at birth, including me. It was so common, that I never saw any boy whose penis did not look like that. I had no idea that we had all been surgically altered.
But in fourth grade, a new boy entered our school and he was determined by as "Different". You see there were no partitions between the urinals in the boys room, and admittedly we would all take peeks at one another out of our own curiosity. Rumors quickly spread around the boys in our class that this new boy was "very different" down there! One day I arranged myself in our piss line so that I would be peeing in a urinal right next to him. I decided that I should take my own peek to resolve this rumor once and for all.
What I saw was shocking! The knob at the end of his penis was missing! What was worse, the skin at the end of his penis where his pee came out was all rough and jagged, not a nice nozzle hole like all the rest of us had. It looked to me like he had had a terrible accident and the head of his penis had been torn off...... Morbidly ripped off.....and IT was now missing!
(I had no reason to think... that for some reason he had a hood over it and that the head of his penis was still intact.) I don't think any of us were brave enough to ask him what happened to his penis.
"I'll show you mine if you'll show me yours."
It was at that time that he showed me how he could pull it back, and indeed he did have a knob on his penis that looked just like mine! He boasted that it was actually "me" that had been altered, and that we were both born with a hood just like his was, but mine had some skin lopped off. I suddenly came to know about circumcision.
I learned so much at that sleepover!

I grew up in a culture that was the opposite, and there were no Jewish or Muslim boys in my school. At about that same age I saw my first boy with a circumcised penis, and I thought maybe he had a birth defect or something, or somehow glued his foreskin back so that his knob was always showing.
