People talking about 7th grade, I was so dumb at that age. I was a waterboy for the High School football team. A girl at school got pregnant and there was talk about a certain player, which I totally did not understand. What did a boy have to do with a girl being pregnant? At a team meeting Coach threatened every player, "Johnson's off the team. If I hear about any of you screwing a girl, you're off my team too."
I was completely confused. I knew babies came out of women's pee holes, but that was the limit of my sexual knowledge. Coach went on to say, "Do I make myself clear? This is a matter of the entire team's reputation." The players nodded. "If you can't contain yourself, go in the bathroom alone and take care of your problem. But this team will leave the girls alone or we will forfeit the season. Keep your pants ZIPPED!"
I was only 12 and had never shot a drop of sperm, but believe me I kept my pants ZIPPED. It was not until the following year that I was wigglng my stiffie at a urinal and made the discovery that is the key to everything.

Dave brings us this story from his youth. I believe it is best to let the story serve as testament to his affection for someone he cherished...
Like this story and really love the coach's advice on what to do. Could the coach talk like that today? People would accuse him of verbal abuse or harassment.
ReplyDeleteThe coach is using the language of his team's generation to make his point. However he is an adult and an authority figure. I agree with him in principle but by putting himself on their level("screwing," "take care of your problem") he is likely to lose respect.
