I had to write a short post to our readers regarding some of the strange behavior for one of our linked sites, "Exposure". I visit the site upon occasion, for photo reference and appreciation (Wink) and had noticed that various additional browsers randomly launch when you click on that site's internal links. Obviously this is worrisome regarding malware, or virus-like activity.
I wrote to the owner "Pazi's" to express my concern for his site. I will note that he reached out to me about 8 months ago and offered to share links on each-other's site. We did and the end result has been quite beneficial to us increasing our traffic ten-fold. But anyway, in regards to my recent note last week, I did not receive any reply and the status of his site seemed to remain about the same with regards to sketchy user experience and continued pop-ups.
Over the past couple of days I had been thinking of how I should pose the question to our readers what are your concerns for that site, or if you enjoy visiting, and is it worth the possible risk of PC infection. Well just before I sat down to write this note, I visited the site to see the current status. I was dismayed that I was challenged by a Windows credential box and a page that closely resembled ransom-ware which was spoofing to be "Microsoft". I had to use task manager to close the browser, and obviously I was quite alarmed of this.
I am sure that all of you are aware and appreciate that my blogs remain Free of ads, and I take caution to assure we do not employ any reason for our readers to feel their web experience is threatened. I could sign up for Adsense with Bloggur, and ads would appear on here, to potentially generate some revenue for my efforts. I have no need for that, as the web-hosting is free. There are indeed trade-offs for free, but our formula has remained fairly stable over the past 6 years. I see no need to change.
Effectively immediately the links for Exposure are disabled on both of my blogs. I feel that risks are far too great and I can not subject my guests to this manner of reckless profiteering.
Feel free to comment below on this action, or for any thoughts on links for us.
To our readers, and guests, I regret to issue a serious type of post. Generally we are all about a pleasant experience, but this needed to be said.
A Personal apology to Pazi's that our link sharing relationship must end. It is something I must do.
E-Kindly,
Eric
